AMT Delivers the Management and Security Backbone of the NEXT Computing Paradigm
Active Management Technology delivers the management backbone of the NEXT Computing Paradigm. Computing has reached the height of complexity and buzz words, numbing minds the world over. The NEXT Computing paradigm is as simple to use as your mobile phone/iPhone, lets you freely download the applications desired and needed, and the underlying operating system is maintained by your service provider as are the servers. The NEXT Computing paradigm frees the users from the major software and hardware companies control and allows service providers to offer computing at the fraction the current cost. The NEXT Computing paradigm delivers what users want: word processing, gaming, presentation maker, spreadsheet, video viewing, email, audio listening, etc.
AMT provides the system and power management support detailed in these blogs:

http://software.intel.com/en-us/blogs/2008/11/14/what-kvm-oem-specific-service-processor-and-console-server-vendors-dont-want-you-to-know/
"No way", you say! "Yes way", I say!
The eyeOS ( http://eyeOS.org) and Manage Operations ( http://Manageoperations.net) have teamed to deliver:
a web based desktop that provides an Office Suite with word processing, presentation maker, spreadsheet, video viewing and audio soon to be added IM ( hopefully Skype: http://Skype.com), email developer tool kit to add customer and vendor applications quickly and easily and its FREE, Open Source software that protects your privacy
The Servers deliver the web based desktop to the user. The user&aposs device has the ability to run the eyeOS server locally and a web browser. The user downloads the additional applications desired or needed. The user has no idea of the underlying operating system on their device or the Server&aposs configuration, where their data is securely stored.
Too Good to be true! Nope!
Server
The server runs a web server, supports PHP code, and the eyeOS framework and API. A quad core Intel with 8 GB of memory easily supports 600 simultaneous users. The servers are manufactured to run in higher temperatures, say 85 degrees F/29.4 degrees C. ( see note Energy Savings below ). Their fans are noiseless and power supplies are highly efficient. This means for companies with under 2000 employees, a computer room is not even required. The two quad core servers sit under someone&aposs desk in the office. I know, that&aposs where mine are now. The Server hardware in the server room will be "skinless" like Google does to allow more computers per rack and to improve cooling. Specifications are published to allow any vendor to build these servers; once commoditized their cost will be very low. The network devices and CPU will be AMT enabled.
User Device
The user device runs a web browser. Pretty simple! The OS boots immediately as it is tuned and running on a small solid state drive. There is room for local storage and a eyeOS server if unable to get a network connection. This device in notebook or desktop form is the size of a Mac Book Air or Pro. The graphics capability range from excellent to gaming quality. The user device&aposs energy savings is tremendous: smaller fans, no hard disk, and generally less power required. The energy savings on the desk top and notebook are tremendous. The Users network and CPU will be AMT enabled.
AMT&aposs Role in the NEXT Computer Paradigm
Active Management Technology delivers the ability to control power, gain access to web desktop, update the underlying OS, validate application downloads, provide general security to a simplified application platform – think iPhone and downloading the apps you want some free and some cost. The user controls their web desktop and the security is provided by AMT. The cost of management which is largely automated is greatly reduced. The eyeOS servers are managed via the AMT using MO from manage operations. MO runs as an application on the eyeOS desktop.
Energy Savings
British Telecom saved 60 to 70% of their energy bill via a number of steps:http://www.biggerthinking.com/en/efficient_data_centres.aspx and 85% of the cooling bill by using fresh air cooling. Using DC straight to the equipment at lower voltages allows for savings as well. The AC to DC conversion is done by inexpensive and poorly constructed devices, BT found.

Goldilocks’ storage sanity check
Though I work in a world that revolves around the virtues of everything digital, my kids always enjoy reading a good old fashioned book. Funny, you can get some great storage analogies from children’s books. Take for instance Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
The struggle of Goldilocks to find the chair, porridge, and bed that was “just right” for her is similar to what small business owners go through in finding solutions to protect their data.
The way I see it, there are features that make a solution “just right” for small business especially when it comes to offering more than just backup:
- Networked – consider Network Attach Storage so, you can house all of your data and backup to a central location
- Secure Remote Access – secure access via a web browser satisfies the need to access and protect your files when outside the office.
- Automated – make the process as easy as possible by choosing a solution that does the work for you.
- Scalable – enabling you to invest in what they need today, while protecting your investment long term.
- Reliable – choose a solution that offers great support options and a solid warranty.
With storage, it’s all about killing many birds with one stone. Choosing the right one will save your small business time and money over the long haul.
What stone will you use?

Microsoft Releases Final IE8 To The Public
by admin on Mar.18, 2009, under Software
At its MIX 09 conference in Las Vegas, Microsoft has revealed the public launch of IE8, which includes numerous navigation, security and performance improvements.
Microsoft will release Internet Explorer 8 to the public at 9 a.m., Pacific Time, Thursday, when users will be able to start taking advantage of the many navigational and security-related enhancements in the latest version of the Web browser. The improvements Microsoft has made in IE8 are primarily in response to feedback gathered by Microsoft’s anonymous feedback telemetry system, and focus largely on navigation, said Amy Barzdukas, senior director for Internet Explorer.
One such enhancement, Web Slices, lets users create something akin to graphical RSS feeds. For example, users can add a Web Slice to eBay to keep track of an item up for bid, and the Web Slice will give them an actual graphic feed or “slice” of eBay’s site, as opposed to just text.
IE8 Accelerators are add-ons that allow information to be transferred from one Web page to another without the need for copying, pasting and navigating to a new browser window or tab.
“These are great opportunities for third parties and partners to develop sticky, highly interactive experiences to drive more business to their Web sites,” Barzdukas said.
IE8′s most-talked-about feature is probably InPrivate Browsing, known in some circles as “porn mode,” for its ability to let users mask their browsing history, temporary Internet files, form data, cookies, and usernames and passwords.
